from major air and boat shows to arts fairs, boat parades, conventions, food festivals, street parties and much more. If you are a fan of the silver screen then you are in for a treat as one of the many events held here in the Fort Lauderdale real estate area is the Fort Lauderdale film festival.
The annual Fort Lauderdale Intenational Film Festival. which in 2007 celebrated its 22nd year, is a competitive annual event that runs each October and November for about a month in South Florida.
It was founded on June 3, 1986, as the Greater Fort Lauderdale Film Festival; the current name was bestowed in 1991. It is listed in the Guinness Book of World Records as the longest-running film festival. Since 1999, the home base of the festival has been Cinema Paradiso (503 SE Sixth St., Fort Lauderdale), a converted playhouse that also shows movies year-round.
Recently named one of the top destination film festivals in the United States by Movie Maker Magazine and the highest rated film festival in the State of Florida by the Florida Arts Council, the Fort Lauderdale International Film Festival (FLIFF)attracts thousands of movie lovers each fall.
Now in its 23rd year, the annual fest will reel out over 175 films from around the globe between October 17 and November 9.
There are over 60 feature films. The balance are thought provoking documentaries, clever shorts, filmmaker tribute films and on Saturday morning’s…family films. Filmmaker and celebrity sightings create an aura of excitement around the month-long cinematic event.
Film Premieres and exclusive screenings, as well as parties and receptions aboard yachts and at some of Fort Lauderdale’s trendiest clubs and restaurants, offer opportunities to experience this tropical paradise and to meet both moviemakers and actors alike.
Some of FLIFF’s special guests over the years have included Matt Damon, Kevin Spacey, Sir Ben Kingsley, Ashley Judd, Elisabeth Shue, Michael Caine, Ben Affleck, Tim Roth, Maria Bello, and renowned directors including Martin Scorceses, Robert Wise, and Peter Bogdanovich.
