Las Olas may be the most prestigious and exclusive neighborhood in all of Fort Lauderdale. It certainly is one of the more picturesque neighborhoods in the Fort Lauderdale real estate market. Back in 1917, Las Olas was just a tiny 2-lane dirt road that conveyed tourists and residents to the world-famous Fort Lauderdale beach, there was not much to look at or things to do. Only the hard-core sun worshippers were taking the treck, and back then, looking sun-tanned was definitely not the fashion. Needless to say, Las Olas was not a destination point.
We can certainly say differently now! Las Olas runs parallel to New River on it’s way to the Atlantic Ocean and the avenue has a charming ambience. The street itself is a broad four lane avenue with many colorful flowers and trees in the actual median itself. The trees make for a very inviting shaded area, for there are many pedestrians getting to and from the many fashion boutiques, art galleries, sidewalk cafes, and a world famous jazz club.
Las Olas has enjoyed an explosive renaissance over the past decade, now being at the forefront of some of the most memorable restaurants in the world. Towards the end of Las Olas, on Himmarshee Canal are many more shops and restaurants too unique to describe, and definitely worth exploring with your friends, you never know just what you will find.
Las Olas Boulevard is only a few minutes from most hotels and very accessible by water taxi. Which in itself is a wonderful way to get around, there are so many beautiful sights to see from the water taxis. You will find that Las Olas is a vibrant, pulsating, living, breathing world class Boulevard. Old meets new on Las Olas Boulevard.
At night, when the Boulevard is fully lit, and you hear strains of music lifting into the air, you breathe in the fresh sea breezes, and the tantalizing scents of the patisserie that you’ve just passed, you know you have arrived, Las Olas style. You are warmly enveloped in the soft night air, and you’ve just experienced a grand meal, maybe even unforgettable. What a wonderful way to spend an evening.
Of course, we cannot fail to mention the Broward Center for Performing Arts. That in itself is one of the highlights of the Fort Lauderdale area. You name it; they will bring it to the stage, Broadway hits, and great performances by the ballet, opera, and orchestras. It also is the host to many different acts, from the comedic to the vocal arts. There are a great number of activities, and you must keep up with what is going on, by seeing their schedule of events.
Getting to Las Olas should most definitely be on your must-see list if you are a visitor, and for the locals, we count ourselves very lucky to have such a wonderful Boulevard to play in. The annual Las Olas Art Fair is just spectacular, we just can’t wait for that to come, there are truly some amazing artists, who showcases their works, and it just seems that the days aren’t long enough to soak it all in.
There is so much to see and do here, we are always being surprised with a new shop, restaurants, or art gallery, that there just is no way to be bored. It’s a lifestyle, and none can compare. Las Olas is a great place to be.
