When choosing where to live in the Fort Lauderdale real estate market, one thing to consider is the reputation and grade of the local schools. Florida grades schools based on Florida Comprehensive Assessment Test scores. The high-stakes test is given to third through 11th-graders and measures student achievement in reading, math, writing and science.

According to the Sun-Sentinel, this year’s grades from the 283 public schools in Broward County increased to an overall grade of A after last year’s grade slipped slightly to a B average. Nearly 75 percent of Florida’s 2,889 public schools received As or Bs this year. Only 45 schools statewide earned an F this year, a drop of about 54 percentage points.
