I am not sure what some people are thinking. Not sure if people from other areas realize this, but did you know summer in the Fort Lauderdale real estate market can bring absolutely brutal heat?
A 4-year-old boy died this morning after being left in the car while his mother was inside a nail salon getting a manicure, pedicure and facial for her wedding later in the day.
The heat inside of a car that sits in the South Florida sun can reach as high as 130+ degrees. A car in the hot sun acts like a greenhouse, trapping the sun’s heat. In our sub-tropical climate it can take only minutes for the temperature to get that high.
The mother, 29, may not have known her son was in the car, investigators said. She dropped off children at a relative’s house before going to get her nails done.
After discovering the child at 11:45 a.m., about two hours after leaving the SUV, the mother or an aunt called 911 in hysterics. One of the women attempted CPR and paramedics did as well upon their arrival. The boy was pronounced dead shortly thereafter at Palms West Hospital, Palenzuela said.
The mother had to be sedated at the hospital and was unable to be interviewed by detectives.
The mother was supposed to be married at 5:30 p.m. She recently moved to Palm Beach County from Miami, said Windell Charles, the pastor of her church. The church took down the wedding decorations later in the afternoon.
I can’t imagine what this woman must be feeling right now. My heart goes out to her.
Whether you are out shopping, going to get something to eat or even if you are a Fort Lauderdale real estate agent showing a Fort Lauderdale real estate home or condo, understand that heat exposure can indeed be a life and death issue.
