Fort Lauderdale Real Estate Foreclosure Expert Offers Free Consultations
I just heard about a foreclosure support group that was featured on CNN. It’s Called “Moving Forward”. Moving Forward is a non-profit peer-based support group for distressed homeowners whose goal is to goal is to help homeowners cope with the stresses created by the foreclosure process, and to educate homeowners of available options when navigating through the foreclosure process.
What is really interesting about Moving Forward is that it was created by was created by homeowners who are losing their house to foreclosure for other homeowners in very similar situations.
Each month, Moving Forward hosts meetings for the entire group wherein guest speakers, who are industry professionals, make presentations and hold prominent discussions on real estate, tax liability, short sales, personal finance, bankruptcy, and how to avoid foreclosure scams.
After hearing about this group I realized that it is an absolute shame that groups like these across the Country are not formed and spearheaded by real estate agents. After all, if we use the National Association of Realtors own statistics, nearly 90% of those in foreclosure had their homes sold to them by Realtors. Where are the agents who are lending a hand to help these distressed homeowners?
I am not by any means blaming ALL Realtors for the state of the housing industry but let’s be realistic. To say that we, as Realtors (not individually but rather as a group), had no culpability for what has happened in this Country and have no responsibility or obligation to help correct matters is ludicrous.
So herewith, I am stating a challenge and a call to action to Realtors nationwide to join, or create, their own version of the Moving Forward support group. Yes, it’s going to take some effort, and yes, it may take spending a few bucks but these people need help. I’m not talking about Joe Deadbeat who simply will not pay his mortgage. We’ll leave those schmucks to the Government to deal with.
I’m talking about Mr. and Mrs. Good People Bad Situation who need help understanding what is going on and need their options explained. We all know those options are very limited, but nonetheless I feel we need to speak to these people and show them that at minimum someone cares.
There are some among us who have skills and and connections that we may be able to offer these homeowners. How about donating commissions on short sales to a displaced homeowner fund? How about free loss mitigation services? How about adopting a pet, the often forgotten victim in a foreclosure? What about organizing a clean-up or staging of the house to help it become more attractive for a prospective buyer? How about finding landlords willing to house those in foreclosure?
There’s a myriad of ways we can help. There just has to be a desire to do so.
