Plan Your Dream Kitchen For Your Fort Lauderdale Real Estate Home Or Condo
July 31, 2008
At one time or another, everyone had dreamed of designing their own kitchen in their Fort Lauderdale real estate home or condo. In this article, we will talk about some design ideas, some basic layouts common to all kitchens, and also some common mistakes to avoid while you plan your kitchen masterpiece.
Before you can begin with your grand ideas and plans the very first thing you must do is consider the layout that best suits the space you currently have. Unless you want to start a major construction project by moving walls, plumbing, and electrical, you will want to work within the confines of your current kitchen layout.
Here are the most common kitchen layout types:

Once your layout has been decided, or decided for you, you can begin to move into the next design phase. One thing to keep in mind is to be sure you do not overdesign the space you have. You may want a double oven, 45″ Refrigerator, double custom stainless steel sinks, etcetera, but be sure you actually have the space.
Here are the items you need to consider in your overall kitchen design.
- What is your favorite style?
- What are the MUST HAVE features you cannot love without?
- What is your budget?
One of the easiest ways to decide upon what features and style you want are to pour through the endless photos available in kitchen books, magazines, and websites.

There are a certain design elements that need to be considered in your design plan. Remember that you need to keep in mind your existing architecture and designs around you home. All design elements do not have to match, they should be reflective of your personal choices.
- Cabinets and Hardware
- Countertops and Backsplash
- Appliances
- Sink, Faucets, and Fixtures
- Floor
Finally, there are a number of common mistake you need to be aware of so you can avoid them at all costs.
- Don’t cut corners by going cheap on labor. A GREAT installer is a craftsman and can make $1000 cabinets look like $10,000 cabinets. A BAD installer can make your $10,000 cabinets worthless and unusable if installed incorrectly.
- Make your budget and stick with it. It is always tempting to add something into your design here and there. Pretty soon those small additions can add up to big bucks. Once you decide on that plan, stick with it.
- Have your design measured and laid out by a professional. Even if you are well versed in home improvement projects, do yourself a favor and get a second opinion. Being off even 1 inch in your cabinet measurements can make that custom cabinet order useless.
- Design for the future. Consider the kitchen you may want in 3 or 5 years. The average kitchen is updated only every 10-12 years. Are you prepared to live with your current design that long?
Keep all of these items in mind and you will have not be able to get the kitchen of your dreams, you will actually enjoy the process too.
