Kitesurfing In Fort Lauderdale

I have to admit, I didn’t know much about kitesurfing or kiteboarding before I decided to write this article other than it looked like wicked fun when I saw a group really having fun out in the water this weekend.

As scary as it looks, it seems to be even more of a rush which in my adventurous mind, something worth checking out. If you are not familiar with this activity / sport, imagine tying yourself to a parachute and a surfboard. Well maybe that’s a bad description but it sure seemed like it while I was watching.

Kitesurfing uses the power of the ocean winds to pull a surfer / rider who is attached to a board (looks like a boogie board) through the water at breakneck speeds.

You also grab some SERIOUS air as well. is a surface water sport that uses wind power to pull a rider through the water on a small surfboard or a kiteboard (similar to a wakeboard).

it looks so simple in the video but I’m told you need a good amount of strength to control your rig. Now we all that surfers are a bit of a different breed, but do yourself a favor. If you’re here on vacation and you decide to give kitesurfing a go, have some fun by all means, but keep your wits about you.

Kitesurfing in a tropical storm or hurricane might not be something you’re going to want to do. Last August a guy went out in Tropical Storm Fay and things didn’t go all that well for him.

So have some fun, but be careful out there!
