24th Annual Las Olas Art Fair PartI edition takes place January 7th & 8th, 2012 Saturday & Sunday 10:00 AM- 5:00 PM on Las Olas Blvd. in Fort Lauderdale.
It seems like just yesterday that I met art fair Impresario Howard Alan. He had produced his first art fair for the Las Olas Association and it was a big hit with the visitors and merchants… Here it is 24 years later, and he not only produces three art fairs a year on Las Olas, he’s become known as “The King of Art”.
As the country’s largest promoter of art and craft shows, Howard Alan Events has produced some of the nation’s finest juried art shows, including more than 40 venues throughout the country each year such as the Downtown Aspen Art Festival, Beaver Creek Art Festival, Downtown Naples Art Festival, Chicago Tribune Magnificent Mile Art Festival, Las Olas Art Fair, and many more.
The group’s founders personally select unique, culture rich cities for their show locations providing a complete out-door experience unmatched by other festivals. Each show is unique with works of new and upcoming artists as well as established artists.

This year, the Las Olas Art Fair takes place on Las Olas Boulevard between S.E. 6th Avenue and S.E. 11th Avenue, where the streets are closed to vehicular traffic. In those two days, Las Olas is transformed into a first-class outdoor art showcase complete with 150 artists and $15 million in artwork available for sale. Admission is free and open to the public.
“We are looking forward to painting the town with 15 million dollars of art,” said The King of Art Howard Alan. Produced by Howard Alan Events, the Las Olas Art Fair is one of the top outdoor art festivals in the country.
In order to ensure a superior art event with only the highest quality of original artwork, the Las Olas Art Fair is a juried art show in which all of the local and national artists have been hand-selected from hundreds of applicants.
Whether you are a casual art enthusiast, festival-goer or avid collector, there is something for everyone. From $25 hand-designed earrings and $50 prints, to $20,000 metal sculptures, original artwork will cover a full spectrum of mediums, including paintings, sculptures, photography, glass, ceramics, mixed media and more.
Unlike a typical gallery setting, all of the artists will be at the festival with their artwork, giving visitors the opportunity to talk with the artists, learn about their art and what inspires them, and of course purchase or commission original pieces.

Third Annual Martorano’s Masters Meatball Eating Championship
This might just be the grossest event ever! So are you going to attend? Maybe enter?
The Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino, in association with Major League Eating, is teaming up with Steve Martorano, The “Godfather of Italian-American Cooking,” to present the third annual “Martorano’s Masters Meatball Eating Championship” on Saturday, December 10 from 4 – 6 p.m.
Guests will have the opportunity to witness some of the world’s most popular competitive eaters in action as they skillfully devour Martorano’s award-winning meatballs for a chance to win a share of $3,000 cash.
The winner ate over 6 pounds of meatballs last year. I love meatballs but this is a bit much for me. So are you going to enter? Might be some easy cash for you!
I think that Cafe Martorano has some of the best Italian food in Fort Lauderdale but eating 6 pounds of meat in a couple of minutes might just be a bit more than I care to take on. How about you?

Important Public Service Announcement for the Fourth of July Spectacular
Spectator vessels should not anchor on a coral reef. If a vessel anchors in the Elkhorn/Staghorn coral critical habitat, it should anchor over a sandy bottom that is free from coral or Johnson’s sea grass.
All vessels should maintain a lookout for endangered species, especially sea turtles and manatees. Vessels should proceed at a safe speed, especially at night, in order to avoid striking any marine mammal or sea turtle.
Enjoy the fireworks shows, drive safely, and be sure to hydrate — it’s going to be wicked hot. All of the restaurants on the beach will be participating so there will be plenty of ice cold Corona’s…my 4th of July beverage of choice!
Now that the tourists have left for cooler climates up north, the night’s are heating up here in South Florida. What is it? Well it’s being dubbed “A mile of live entertainment!” We’ve got some great hotels, really fantastic restaurants and of course the beach.
This will truly be a diverse experience of cultural energy and some of the best food in South Florida. The event is free because it is funded by the downtown businesses. So get down there to support them.
Over 20 live acts will be set up each event night on the sidewalk area on the west side of A1A to create “A Mile of Live Entertainment on Fort Lauderdale Beach. Acts range from a Jimmy Buffet style solo guitar player to stilt walkers and mimes.

Who doesn’t like a great, big, juicy burger? I’m not talking about the pre-packaged fare you get from Mickie D’s or Burger King. I’m talking the kind of burger that takes two hands to eat made from the best ground beef, or better yet, ground sirloin in town.
Well if you know what I’m talking about and want to get your hands on some real mouth watering grade-a burgers then you’re not going to want to miss this event. Trust me, after attending the recent Sips And Sliders event I can personally tell you that these chef’s have it going on!
